Nancy Lee Gulick Harville Playground Dedication
Thanks to Dawn and Steve Wood who masterfully orchestrated the Children's/Youth Sunday and Playground Dedication. We had 100 people in the service and enjoyed music from Elizabeth Pollard, Kelly Maxedon, the Second Twelve Mile Baptist Ringers, the Morgan kids (thanks April!) and Steve Work. Afterwards the playground was dedicated and a touch football game and corn hole was played.

Lois Wilson, we will miss you!
Tonight around 8:30pm, surrounded by family and friends, Lois Wilson, our oldest member passed over to the eternal care of the Lord. Lois was a life-long educator. So many people in Pendleton County had Ms. Wilson as a teacher. Lois was a great worker in the church as well. She participated in all of the endeavors of the church, from clean-up days, to visiting the sick, to providing food for the needy, to filling Christmas shoeboxes, to playing corn hole and Dominos. In the past couple of years, as her health deteriorated, she purchased our ceiling fans and when she was no longer able to cook, she regularly bought the fried chicken for our church potlucks. She had a heart for the Lord and people. Many of our past and current members came to Morgan through Lois. Lois, your giving, wise, opinionated, loving spirit will be missed. The visitation is from 4-8pm Wed at Woodhead Funeral Home in Falmouth and the funeral is at 11am Thursday. Click here for more information.

Outlook Article from 7/4/11
My apologies for missing the early July 4th deadline in the Outlook:
What a terrific homecoming! Despite the rain, we worshipped, ate under the tent and in the fellowship hall and in the wet grass, the kids had a ball playing on the newly made Nancy Harville Memorial Playground. Thanks to Steve Wood, Marcelino Vargas and Mason Wood for their labor. We also enjoyed seeing our oldest member Lois Wilson who was brought to church by Hiram Harville. We had so many visitors! We enjoyed the music of Mary Lynn and Josh; Dale Gentry; the Timmy Cummins group; and the Steve Work band. We had about 82 people in attendance in church.
Volleyball continues! We won our first game last week.

We will miss you Nancy Harville!
After hearing that Nancy was supposed to go home this weekend with hospice care, many of us were shocked to hear that her condition had deteriorated to the point where her family was called in. Surrounded by her loved ones, she passed on Friday March 25th around 7pm. The love and sorrow for our beloved Nancy was tangible as we stood with her and watched her take her last breath. Nancy's personality, her laugh, her love, her acceptance, her consideration for others, her strong convictions, her fierce love for family and so many other aspects of her life will be sorely missed. Arrangements are being made with Woodhead Funeral Home. The 24 Hour Obituary Line is (859)-654-4422.

State of the Church Address
Well, January is a good time to look back on the year. As the President gives his annual State of the Union address, I usually give a State of the Church address as well. Last year our membership grew from 40 members to 56. Our participating average went from 30 on Sunday to 45. We have doubled our deacons and our elders. We have made history in calling our first two female elders. We have increased the variety of music, musical instruments and musicians in worship. We had a Christmas pageant, and had a visit from Santa (I believe the last time he came was well over a decade ago) collected canned goods, Christmas boxes, sponsored a family for Christmas, donated animals to the Heifer Project, built a new baptistry, purchased a van, fenced our parking lot, had a homecoming, made church shirts, redecorated our basement, started a new Sunday School class... and we ate... and we played Dominos... and we ate some more. We have had a solid, steady growth pattern. In the coming year, we will need to explore new ways to reach out and continue this growth. As with every church, we need to remember that we are running a race and that we need to move forward for God's glory. There is no time to linger or become stagnant. God has so much more in store for us. We still need to complete our parking lot across the street. We have intentions to build a playground for the children and we still have the church van to pay off. In February we will be collecting a special offering to the Week of Compassion which is our national agency for us as a Christian Church to address the disasters in the world. Most Disciples churches give 4-6 times a year to the greater body, supporting the regional and national offices. I would like to see our congregation move from 1 special offering to 3 in the next year. It is the faithful and right thing to do to support the structure and mission that we are a part of. With the greater blessings of resources and members, we will have more responsibility. My prayer is that we will find new, exciting, life-giving ways of serving for the glory of God and the name of Jesus.
