Twins Home Together!

If anyone heard someone screaming this morning, don't be concerned, it was just me celebrating, BRYCE IS ON HIS WAY HOME!!!!!! After 7 1/2 months of hospital, Casey is finally FREE!! Bryce is now 7 lb 11 oz and Cohen is 11 lb 13 oz. Please remember the benefit next week, we have everything to celebrate now!!

re: Family Fun Night Friday 9/25

This Friday we will have *Game of Skate in our parking lot beginning at 6pm. We will also have corn hole, euchre and refreshments. We will show a 30 minute video of Micah in Next X. Come on out!

*The Game of Skate will be free but a parent's signature is needed for participation. There will be prizes to the winners.

Lois turns 90!

Lois Wilson celebrated her 90th birthday at the Farm Bureau building last Sunday. This Sunday we had cake and continued to celebrate her wonderful life.

Lightening strikes the church

We had a bad electrical storm Sunday night and early Monday morning. Lighting struck Morgan Church's bell tower, and run in on the telephone line. The phone was laying on the table. The church land phone is out of service. Regina called Jimmie about 10:00 AM Monday morning. She & Dale said there was a terrific jolt about 3:00 AM. Mike McCormick also called concerned about the church. Jimmie has reported the damage to Farm Bureau Insurance. Estille has had Steve and another gentlemen down to survey the damage. We were very fortunate that there was not more damage or the church catch on fire.

A Brief History

In February 1862, Richard Stowers deeded a portion of his land to Jeremiah Wells and William Kirkwood to establish a meeting house for the Christian Church at Morgan. On that site, a frame building was constructed facing the South Licking River. The Rev. Kirkwood, a blacksmith, was the pastor of the congregation.

In December 1882, the building was destroyed when sulfur candles ignited a tree during a Christmas program. Within a year, a brick building had replaced the frame structure. The brick structure was razed in 1915 when a defective wall created a hazard. The present structure, built in 1915 of bricks from the old building and new pressed bricks, faces northeast toward Kentucky Highway 1054. The sanctuary seats 125 people, with room for approximately 20 choir members. Twelve stained-glass windows centered with symbols of faith, were given by families in honor of past members.

More than 35 pastors have served Morgan Christian Church, which is associated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) during its long history. A majority of these pastors were also students at Lexington Theological Seminary (formerly called The College of the Bible).

In July of 2008 a new parsonage was erected in-between the sanctuary and the river. A new fellowship hall was constructed in December of 2008. On January 25, 2009 the Shotwell-Aulick Fellowship hall was dedicated.

In the spring of 2009 there are plans to pave the parking lot in front of the old Morgan High School. We also plan on erecting a monument in commemoration to those who have been laid in the Morgan Christian Church Cemetery.
