Church Update

Spring is almost here! Don't forget to spring forward next week. There will be a potluck, a meeting and special music on March 14th. We will be bowling on the 20th in Cynthiana. Youth who have been attending will bowl for free. We have been averaging in the 30's for our worship attendance. Last week we had 30 in Sunday School alone. Steve Wood is leading the new class which has had Rob and Jennifer Braun, April and Ken LeCrone, Tony and Kelly Maxedon, Buddy and Connie Hannah, Steve and Lois Work, David and Julie Wu, Kathie Moreland, Donnie Dedden, Randy Godman and Dawn Wood in attendance. Amber Work has been teaching the kid's class. Last week the kids drew Christian symbols which Amber drew in henna on their hands and arms.

Micah and David will be helping the first ever Fellowship of Christian Athletes Skate Tour which will be from March 29-April 1.

Pray for Haiti

Here is an update from Week of Compassion, the national offering that funds emergency relief through the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) regarding the disaster in Haiti. They recommend donations and putting together kits through the site. We will discuss our response this Sunday.

We had a wonderful Christmas service with over 40 attendees! David would like to thank the congregation for the Christmas bonus which he used to purchase a new bass and amplifier for use in the service.

Thanks to Gretel Morgan who filled in for David while he was out of town. Gretel signed the song "Mary Did You Know" and her message touched many people. Kelly, Jeane and Jimmy did a good job of leading the singing; Hiram was worship leader, Kathie did the children's moment and Estille filled in at the communion table. There were 31 people in attendence.

Steve Work played bass guitar on two songs and played an instrumental piece on the 12-string during communion. Micah played the djembe and Julie Wu was worship leader. There were 32 in attendance.

Welcome Brayden James Ray Hensley

Here is an email from James Hensley. Keep his baby, Dwayne's grandbaby in your prayers:

Hey Dave its James. i just wanted to let you know that i became a father yesterday at 4:14pm in the afternoon to my beautiful baby boy Brayden James Ray Hensley. He was born pre mature so he is have problems and they had to send him to a neo natal hospital in the Twin Cities until his lungs are mature enough to work on there own. But they expect him to come through just fine.

4th Sunday in Advent

The Godmans lit the love candle on our Advent wreath today. Duke Wilms read from scripture. We had guests: Steve Work, Crystal, Angela's family, and Tony Maxedon. We installed April LeCrone and Steve Wood as new deacons. Donnie Dedden came forward to make his profession of faith and plans on being baptized. After church a group of us went to Blackberry and then sang carols to Mabel. In spite of the snow and ice it was a wonderful Sunday.

We welcomed Amber Work as our newest member on Sunday!

Jason and Sarah brought some moving music to our worship.

We also had a fun youth gathering. We had 9 youth and 4 adults. Thanks to Hiram, Lois and Julie for bringing food. Thanks to Kathie for leading spoons and for Amber who taught us how to make friendship bracelets. We had fun playing corn hole, train wreck and hide and seek. We also had a candle-light meditation in the sanctuary. Thanks to the youth who came: Carly, Alexis, Jacqueline, Jake, Caleb, Connor, Mason, Josh and Micah. Forward future ideas for youth gatherings to Pastor David.

Upcoming Events

December 12 - All youth and recent grads are welcome to a night of fun, music, corn hole, friendship bracelets, hide and seek and more. We will be meeting in the fellowship hall at 7pm on Dec. 12 and go until 10pm. Hope to see you there!
December 13 - Guest musicians: Jason and Sarah, potluck and congregational meeting.
December 20 - Christmas Caroling at River Valley after church

23 Shoeboxes delivered

Jimmie & I delivered the shoeboxes this afternoon to the Alexandria Community Center. We had 23 shoeboxes. Isn't that fantastic! I don't think we have had over 14 before. We had to wait in line. Today was the first day for pickup. They didn't receive until 12:00 PM and they already had 1,000 boxes. Great! ~Faye Godman

Beautiful Day!

What a day! We enjoyed welcoming Steve and Dawn Wood who officially rejoined the church today. We also welcomed Ken, April Caitlin LeCrone and Josie Shearer who joined the church also! Afterwards we had a wonderful turkey dinner.
